Ten Reasons Why You’d Vote for Khusi Limbu

Namaste, I’m Khusi Limbu and am standing for General Secretary of the Non-Resident Association (NRNA) UK for the term 2017-19.

I’m currently Spokesperson of the NRNA UK. My roles involve helping the NRNA UK deliver its strategy through regular communication. As one of the responsible office-bearers, I deal with breaking issues and work with journalists from local, national and international media to keep all NRNA UK stakeholders informed of NRNA’s activities.

I am also Coordinator of the NRNA UK’s Department of Press and Publication. Chiefly, the department publishes NRNA UK’s official magazine NRN VOICE of which I am Editor-in-Chief.

Since I joined NRNA UK’s executive committee two years ago, I have also worked in Charity Department and led various fundraising campaigns, such as Mira Rai Sponsorship Fundraising, Prem Suhang Help Fundraising, and Ambulance and Telemedicine Project Fundraising .

Most proudly, I’ve been leading Sirise School Reconstruction Project, which is under NRNA UK’s One NCC One Project initiative – a philanthropic activity in Nepal that NCCs of NRNA must do in their tenure of two years. The Sirise Project is estimated to cost around 40 lakhs rupees and is due for completion by the end of this year.

I have attended NRNA’s four major international conferences: Kathmandu Global Conference (2015), Middle-East Regional Meeting in Doha (2016), European Regional Meeting in Denmark (2016) and European Regional Meeting in Frankfurt(2017).

At the ICC level, I am a member of a taskforce Foreign Employment and Migrant Workers’ Welfare Committee (FEMWWC). I particularly help the team by updating or highlighting the issues about Nepalese workers facing problems in Europe region.

I am also involved in social activities outside NRNA UK.  I am Vice-President of Panchthar Tharpu Society UK and leading its project to build a library building in Nepal. Previously, I served as General Secretary of BNO (Gurkha) Association UK (2004-08), Hong Kong Nepali Munch UK (2014-16) and Royal Borough of Greenwich Nepalese Society (RGNS) 2015-17.

After acquiring knowledge and accumulating experiences in various fields of the NRNA, now I am standing for the post of General Secretary and would like to take my energy to another level. If I become General Secretary, I promise to deliver the following by the end of tenure.

  1. Communicating with the Members Most Effectively: Effective and regular communication is a key to NRNA’s success. I will be in close contact with members and all stakeholders at all times. I will operate NRNA UK’s all channels of communication more effectively and in up-to-date manner.
  2. Taking Project Nepal House to a Logical Phase: I will continue NRNA UK’s ongoing movement for a community Nepal House in the UK, and take the project to a logical phase by the end of the term.
  3. Holding the NRNA UK Accountable to its Registered Members: While NRNA UK has been focusing more on Nepal, I will hold the association accountable to its general members here in the UK. I will also make 20 per cent of NRNA UK’s charitable activities UK-oriented.
  4. Managing Data, Organising Membership: I will make sure that all registered members shall have their membership card on time. I will also end current system to renew or register membership during election time only. I will continue working hard to make NRNA UK more organised and transparent by recording new data and archiving old ones.
  5. Making Sub-Committees Responsible: I strongly believe that NRNA UK cannot achieve its goal until its sub-committees are strengthened and held responsible. I will hold all the departments of the NRNA UK accountable for overall objectives of the association.
  6. Establishing NRNUK Award:  I propose to establish biyearly NRN UK Year Awards in different categories in recognition of individuals’ contribution to the society in various fields.
  7. Introducing Online Voting: For the first time in NRNA UK’s history, I will make everyone’s voice heard. I will work hard with the committee to introduce online voting system so members of every parts of the UK can have their say at one click from home.
  8. Joining the Campaign to Re-Establish Nepal-UK Direct Air Route: I will persuade the executive committee to officially join the Embassy of Nepal in their campaign to re-stablish Kathmandu-London-Kathmandu direct airline route.
  9. Decentralising NRNA UK: Even after 12 years of its establishment, NRNA UK has not set-up its regional committees, and “most of its activities have become London-centric”.  As result, the association is currently facing negative side effectives of having no grassroots backup. As General Secretary, I guarantee to form ad-hoc regional committees in various regions, including in Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and Midlands within first 12 months.
  10. Hosting NRNA’s 12th European Meeting in Birmingham: I will play a special role to hold NRNA’s 12th European Regional Meeting in Birmingham in 2019.

Thank you for reading my manifesto and please vote for Khusi Limbu on the 9th September 2017.
